Manjushri KMC ~ The Mother Center
Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre (MKMC) in England is the Mother Center of modern Kadampa Buddhism and the international headquarters of the New Kadampa Tradition.
Situated in the English Lake District, it provides an extraordinarily peaceful and inspiring environment in which people can learn about Buddhism and meditation, while helping with the growth and development of Kadampa Buddhism worldwide.
Spiritual home of Geshe Kelsang
The center is the spiritual home of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, where he as lived and taught since arriving in the West in 1977.
It was at Manjushri Centre that Geshe Kelsang wrote most of his books, developed the Kadampa Education Program, and founded the NKT-IKBU, thereby transforming the center into the Mother Center of modern Kadampa Buddhism.
First Kadampa Temple
Under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang, the first Kadampa Temple for World Peace was built at Manjushri Centre in 1997.
This holy place is the venue for the Spring and Summer International Festivals each year.
As the Mother Center, MKMC hosts the International Teacher Training Program each year, which is attended by hundreds Kadampa Teachers from all over the world.
Residential center
The Resident Teacher at MKMC is Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab, the Deputy Spiritual Director of the NKT. Besides teaching at various National Festivals around the world, Gen-la Khyenrab also teaches the Teacher Training Program and General Program at Manjushri Centre.
With a residential community of approximately a hundred students, including many Buddhist monks and Buddhist nuns as well as lay practitioners, Manjushri Centre is the largest Kadampa center in the world.
Residents at the center are engaged in activities supporting Kadampa Buddhism worldwide, including the NKT publishing company Tharpa Publications and the Kadampa Studio.
